Snowman Shuffle

Jacque and I ran the Snowman Shuffle 5k, and my mom and Krista did the 1 mile walk. This was a challenging course. Started out uphill, and kept going up. Nice weather, about 40 degrees. It was nice to get out of our valley's inversion and get some nice fresh air. Celebration lunch at Maddox. My time: 36 minutes.

Joined Planet Fitness today. Getting too cold to run outside. When I come back from running, my insides are warm, and my skin is ice cold and sweaty. This can not be heathly, can it?

FIRST RACE

Perfect day for a race. Today is the Wasatch Woman Love Your Body 6k which is held at Thanksgiving Point. This is an all women event, and there are alot more women here than I thought would be.

I talked my mom, sister Terri, and daughters into running or walking this with me. Well, my daughters really didn't have a choice, I just signed them up.

It was fun having a "girl weekend." We went down the night before and stayed at the Hampton. Our pre-race dinner was Maddox! We got extra rolls to go, figured we would add some yummy carbs.

Mom and Terri met us that morning. They arrived quite early, so they came over to the hotel and had breakfast with us. Mom and Terri walked it. Me and the girls ran it. I felt that I was holding my girls back, so I told them just to go at their own pace and I would meet them at the end.

I was so nervous, and focused on running, that I didn't see any of the cool stuff around me. I was informed after the race that there was a really neat italian garden, water fall, and other nice gardens that we ran through. Me.........I saw the path I was running on, the persons feet in front of me, the little boy handing me a cup at the water station, and the finish line.
My time was 42 minutes! I was able to jog the whole event. Super excited to see my mom and Terri come around to the finish line. They walked it, and they were not last! Mom was the oldest female competitor. She is AWESOME!
They had a bouncy slide thing there at the finish line, and Ben threw up in the bounce house. By the time Jessy got a wet wipe to wipe it up, some other kid was sliding down. OOOPS. We all laughed about that one.

Celebration lunch with my other sister Patti, and my nieces Krista, Jessy and her son Ben, and Jenny. We ate at Zuppas.

3 mile Challenge?

My good friend Amy put out the question......"Can you run the whole loop yet?" I thought about this, and well.....I guess I have never really tried. I have always ran a little walked a little to get me around the 3 mile loop.

Guess What?? I CAN DO IT!!!!

Thanks Amy for throwing that Challenge out to me.

Duathon

I talked my good friend Jan and my daughter Jacque to enter a Duathalon with me, as a team. Jacque and I will each run 2 miles, and Jan will bike 12. My first real event. Kind of nervous this morning. Not sure exactly how I will do. But as I told Jan, we were not in it to place, just for fun and to finish.

Jacque ran 1st. I was getting kind of nervous when all the other runners kept coming in, and no Jacque. She came in and tagged Jan, and Jan was off to ride up and down Blacksmith Fork Canyon. I was the anchor of the team. Jan got back and tagged me, and I started my slow but steady pace down the path. As I was coming into the finish line, there was Jan, waiting for me with lots of words of encouragement. She ran the last little bit with me, which really meant alot! Our team actually took 1st place in our mixed age division. Huh, was not expecting that. Jacque went to Lagoon after her run, so she was not able to be in our photo with us. Pretty exciting day. Setting a goal, and working towards it, then accomplishing it. What a great feeling.

Unofficial 5k

This morning I left the house around 8:15 am, when all of a sudden I hear a tremendous pitter-patter of lots of feet behind me. To my surprise, the Nibley Stake was hosting a 5k Fun Run! Well, being a beginning runner, and never really running with others around me, this really through off my "chi."

It was nice that they had a water station set up. I did take advantage of that. This is the first time that I have tried drinking water from a cup while running. Oh my heck, what a laugh this was, choking, coughing, etc...... Got really hot this morning. Too hot. There was ZERO shade on the route this morning. A frustrating run.

Made it to their "finish line" and bless their hearts, they gave me a ribbon! Even though I did not sign up for it!

A Runner is Born

Today I set a goal to run the Wasatch Woman's Love Your Body 6k on October 9, 2010. Today I am a runner.
